Sunday league player whose sudden death saddened the footballing and business community
Popular Sunday league footballer Alex McLeish of Meir Park in Staffordshire was found dead at home on 8 November, 2008.
Mr McLeish, aged 35, was a father-of-one, who used to live near Leek.
He worked at JCB and was well known as a Sunday league footballer across North Staffordshire. He was most recently playing for the Potters Bar pub team in Meir Park.
Potters Bar manager Julian Bristow said: "Alex was with us for about two years. He was a very good player and always part of the group.
"He was very intelligent, and very loyal to his friends. Nothing was too much trouble for him."Kenny Scragg managed Mr McLeish when he played for the Blue Mugge team in Leek.
He said: "He was in his early twenties when he played for us. On the football field he was a no-nonsense player, but off the field he was one of the nicest people you could wish to meet.
